Administratively, Banihayan is affiliated to the Nabatieh Governorate, Marjeioun District. It is approximately 108 km from the capital Beirut, approximately 32 km from the governorate center, and 22 km from the district center in Marjeioun. It is 635 m above sea level at its highest point. It is bordered to the east by Markaba, to the west by Majdal Salmak and Qabrikha, to the south by Taloussa, and to the north by Qantara and Taybeh. Its total area is approximately 4,500 donums.

تتبع بني حيان ادارياً الى محافظة النبطيه قضاء مرجعيون تبعد عن العاصمه بيروت حوالي 108 كم وعن مركز المحافظه حوالي 32 كم وعن مركز القضاء في مرجعيون 22 كم وترتفع عن سطح البحر في اعلى نقاطها 635 م يحدها من الشرق مركبا ومن الغرب مجدل سلمك وقبريخا ومن الجنوب طلوسه ومن الشمال القنطره والطيبه تبلغ مساحتها الاجماليه حوالي 4500 دنم .
